Job Summary
Functions as a clinician and a behavioral health clinical supervisor of a psychiatric department or clinic. May lead in planning and coordinating the work of a multidisciplinary treatment staff. Assists with long-term planning; revises / implements new procedures; conducts training for professional and paraprofessional staff members; and provides psychotherapeutic treatment with emphasis on the most severely disturbed and high-risk cases.

This position provides direct services to clients and works with the Clinical Managers/Directors of the clinic to resolve system issues, advise on work methods, and assist with complex cases and escalated issues.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $111,000 - $166,600 (Annual Rate).

UCSF's behavioral health clinics provide a broad range of outpatient psychiatric consultation, evaluation, and treatment interventions for emotional, psychological, or cognitive problems. Clinical programs are located in the UCSF Nancy Friend Pritzker Psychiatry Building in San Francisco's Dogpatch neighborhood. Situated adjacent to UCSF's Mission Bay campus, the building is one of the few in the nation that combines outpatient mental health care for people of all ages with top-ranking programs in psychiatry and psychology training and research. By integrating behavioral health clinical, training, and research facilities under one roof-along with services from neurology, neurosurgery, radiology, anesthesiology, obstetrics/gynecology, and other specialties at UCSF-our center allows patients to receive world-class clinical care and participate in cutting-edge clinical research at a single location.
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in related area, eg. Social Work, Counseling Psychology, etc.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of clinical experience
  • Knowledge of psychiatric service operations and ability to apply concepts in an acute care setting.
  • Knowledge of medical center, HR and UC policies and processes. Knowledge of relevant psychiatric health services internal policies and external regulations.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills to guide behavioral health providers on treatment methods for serious mental health disorders.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and execute plans to meet deadlines.
  • Organizational skills for coordinating staff schedules and unit operations.
  • Working knowledge of human resources management practices and policies.
  • Knowledge of business software, specialized applications and EHR systems used in behavioral health clinics / clinical departments.
  • Ability to ensure patient care service standards are consistently met; assists staff with managing challenging patient interactions with sensitivity and skill.
  • Ability to perform all commonly applicable functions in word processing and spreadsheet software. Comprehensive knowledge of organization's patient record system to teach others.

  • Licensed in a psychiatric behavioral health - Licensed Clinical Psychologist
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Sciences (DPBS) and UCSF Medical Center requires all Advanced Health Professionals (AHP) to be credentialed through its Medical Staff Services Office (MSSO) in order to practice and function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric AHPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all DPBS and UCSF Medical Center sites. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days and must be completed prior to the first working day.
